Description
< Vintage 12-volt 1:24 and 1:32 scale slot cars, motors, chassis, tires and tools. Toys & Hobbies, Slot Cars, 1/24, Pre-1970. Here is a collection of vintage 12-volt slot cars, motors, and accessories that were last used in the mid-1960s. They have been stored in my home since then. I believe that all cars are 1:24 scale unless otherwise specified: - Large red sedan is a Mercury Comet “Cyclone” (according to the markings on the trunk). Its front bumper has been filed to give more clearance for the brushes to swivel, and the rear bumper is missing entirely. Rear wheel-wells were enlarged to accommodate larger tires. - Yellow racer is a Porche (?) by Strombecker. Headlight “glass” is missing, the rear window area was modified, and the rear wheel wells were enlarged to accommodate larger tires. - Dark green racer is probably a Lotus. It too may have had its rear wheel-wells slightly enlarged. The front wheel mechanism on this car allows the wheels to turn left or right when it takes a corner. The chassis and wheels have some powdery oxidation, but otherwise they seem to be in good condition. - A Classic Industries, Inc. “Manta Ray” is the sleek, rear-cockpit racer. A weight (which can easily be removed) was taped to the frame for greater stability. There is a small crack in the body running from the left front wheel-well to the top of the left headlight (about ¼ inch). Another two cracks are at the bottom of the rear body. They are about ½ and ¼ inch long. Some discoloration to the body has developed near the right headlight and behind each of the front wheel-wells on the top deck of the car. Its rear wheel-wells may also have been enlarged. - The orange-colored racer is probably 1:32 scale, but I’m not sure what car it represents. It is missing the roll-bar, and its rear wheel-wells have been drastically enlarged for the oversized tires. Accessories in this collection include: - Six spare motors: Three are labeled “RussKit” while the others have no markings. All motors were found to be working when tested on October 1, 2008. Identical (new) RussKit motors have been listed online for approximately $25 each. - Seven pairs of tires in various sizes. At least two of these surplus pairs are stiff, dry, and/or flaking. Along with the tires are several wheel knock-off wrenches, small open-end wrenches, and an allen wrench. These items are all in the original box from the “Manta Ray” chassis. - A “Speedway Blue Streak Speed Chassis kit for SP 500 Russ Kit 22” is included in its original plastic container. This item was never assembled. - From Harris Engineering is a “#915 CorBen chassis for Pittman DC-70 motor.” A motor is also included with the chassis. It was tested on October 1, 2008 and found to be working. Some screws may be missing, or they may be with miscellaneous parts in another small container. - Two hand-controllers are included. These have not been tested, but I believe at least one of them was working. All of the above items are being auctioned together as a collection. They haven’t been used in approximately 40 years. Some of the items (such as the Speedway Blue Streak Speed Chassis kit), have never been assembled. Other items, (such as the set-up cars), were raced on local slot-car tracks. The condition of their bodies is not pristine, but the motors all worked when I tested them on October 1, 2008. Happy bidding.
