Then, AMT added a black plastic chassis with a big gray Mabuchi motor that was belt driven to the rear wheels. In the front, AMT had working steerable wheels that were controlled by steering wheel controls. Truly ahead of their time for 1962 technology. Unfortunately, these cars came in sets that were very expensive for the day($49.00 or more). In addition, even though they were held underneath by the track, the cars were slow.  I liked them because they would spin around in turns like real cars. That's probably why they are one of the hottest slot cars today.
