Description
AMT AUTHENTIC MODEL TURNPIKE – VINTAGE COLLECTIBLE This 46 year old AMT Turnpike layout originally came in a 34”x25.5”x5” box, but with all the extras being offered here, it can’t fit in that box anymore.. As you can see by the photographs, before these pictures were taken, the box was being held together by a rope. This AMT AUTHENTIC MODEL TURNPIKE IS VERY BIG and IT’S ALSO VERY HEAVY! The oval track is 48” wide and over 129” long. When the kit was released in 1962, it was very advanced for the time. It featured Remote Controlled Driver Steering, speed control, two forward speeds and reverse. Take the wheel of this exciting, 1/25th scale precision racing set which packs the thrills and skills of competition driving on a 4 by 10.5 foot layout. Control your car with a real steering wheel and hand accelerator. Barrel flat out down the straightaway’s. Take corners fast in a four wheel drift with true steering and controlled power. Say you spin out—you don’t go off the track. Back up, straighten out and cut out after your competition just like on the racetrack. Drive at Scale Speed of 160 Miles Per Hour! Use the AUTHENTIC MODEL TURNPIKE for stunt driving and trials too. Weave in and out of obstacles, fly over ramps, back up. If you can do it with a real car, chances are you can do it with the AMT AUTHENTIC MODEL TURNPIKE. You steer over and take the pole position when you get the lead. Then your opponent has to steer outside to pass. Both cars can run in the same track yet are independently controlled. The AUTHENTIC MODEL TURNPIKE was the finest motorized model car system in 1962. The TURNPIKE was not a toy—every component was precisely engineered for its specific job. Take the wheel—you’re in command! This kit includes the original AUTHENTIC MODEL TURNPIKE OPERATING MANUAL that outlines Assembly, Connecting Rails, Cap Strips, Power Supply, Control Unit Operation, Pickup Carriage Installation, Attaching the car and Testing. In addition, it has Maintenance Instructions, Troubleshooting Information, Driving Techniques and various Speedway layouts. This kit also contains the Original Warranty Certificate and an Original “Congratulations” Pamphlet from the Peterson Publishing Co. for owning the AMT Turnpike set. The last time I set-up this AMT AUTHENTIC MODEL TURNPIKE and used it, it worked great. Of course, that was over 35 years ago… The kit doesn’t have the 1962 Ford Thunderbird. The TURNPIKE also comes with over 200 “New Track Rail Clips” in their original AMT bags, 8 original drive belts (4 in original AMT bags and 4 outside of bags), 5 carriages, 4 Pickup Carriage Bottom Brushes in original AMT bags and 4 Pickup Carriage Side Brushes in their original AMT bags. 6 Cars including (1) New Ford Galaxie in its original AMT Box and has never been on the track. (1) 1962 Dodge #3 car that looks like it’s been on the track, off the track, spun around, hit the wall and who knows what else. There are some extra tires for this modified car in a little box (see photo of misc. parts). Oh well, at least the driver’s still inside behind the wheel. The 1962 Mercury #86 has “Slicks” on the rear tires and is in pretty good shape, considering the front bumper is a bit scuffed from hitting one of the other cars. Maybe it just came up under the “rake” on the #3 car. The 1962 Pontiac Bonneville #94 is a tough little car. Sponsored by Wick’s Body Shop, it has a missing piece in the center of the grill and the right front headlight is chipped. Just take it over to Wick’s Body Shop; it’s no big deal to repair. The 1962 Mercury #36 is also in pretty good shape, but the two-tone paint on the wheel rims and a few scratches around the grille and headlights tells me it’s a fast car and doesn’t like to follow anyone. The 1962 LaFayette Ford Galaxie #27 looks like a sleeper. The tread is worn off the rear tires, the side decals are a bit scratched and the roll cage is loose inside the cockpit. Hey, what do you want? A pretty, little old lady from Pasadena or a Hard Workin’ Gal that knows her way around the track? If you get this AMT AUTHENTIC TURNPIKE, you’ll get 1 good lookin’ old lady and 5 workin’ gals that know their way around. It’s the best of both worlds! Plus you will receive 4 Power Steering Modules that look like new, with all the paddles. An AUTHENTIC MODEL TURNPIKE Dual Power Pack that looks like new, 6 Curves, 2 Crossovers, 7 Straights, 32 Straight Connectors (a few of the locking tabs are damaged), what can one expect from 46 year old plastic strips? 8 Triangular Caps for the 2 Crossovers, 11 Long Curved Caps, 12 Medium Curved Caps and 2 Small Curved Caps, a small box with about a million, small black screws to hold the entire track together and 1 clip sliding tool. That’s all I have…if you want more, you’ll have to supply your own “Partridge in a Pear Tree”. HAVE ANY QUESTIONS? PLEASE ASK…
